Development - 4th Rumination

it is early evening on July 17th... the past two months since the last update has been the most productive development session of this project's twenty month existence... at this point in development, most of the creative assets and animation framework code is ready to use wherever it's needed in the script... because of this, Act I is almost entirely finished and Acts II-V are ready to commence scripting, though several of the story paths have not yet been written...
there remains a possibility of releasing Act I as a standalone demo... however, Act I is much longer than the other acts, has a different tone, and does not function as a story on its own without the lead-in to Act II and beyond... so its not ideal as a free prologue demo thingy to get people excited for the full release... still thinking on it... there should be a big trailer coming in the next month though, so look out for that...
as mentioned earlier, most assets are ready to go, so from here on out the devlogs will look different... so this will be the last devlog that lists the progress of each asset type at the bottom; instead, future devlogs will list the completion percentage of each of the acts in the story, which should paint a better picture of how finished the game actually is...
it is very exciting to have made so much progress... the biggest change since last update is the addition of real, paid, talented voice acting to the game... it's so good, but it also adds a lot of stress to have to work with and pay actual professionals... but this game was always destined to look and sound way more professional than you'd expect from a debut visual novel from an inexperienced idiot...
Here's where we're at so far:
- Characters - 10 of 10 characters pixeled, animated, and coded
- Artwork - 19 of ? background artwork created - logo completed - GUI artwork about 70% complete
- Music - 27 of 35 tracks completed
- Voice - 2 of 3 main characters voiced by professional, paid voice actors - 5 of 7 side characters voiced by internet acquaintances
- Dialogue - 21,187 words written out of expected 80,000 words across all story paths
- Overall - at this point, the game is approximately 51% complete
thanks for all the support...
