Early Development - 4th Reverie
it is late in the afternoon on September 2nd...
after a summer of not working on the project at all, a significant amount of progress has been made in the past few weeks... first, a few new tunes for the soundtrack have been finalized (one was just uploaded to the quite adept youtube channel today), and several more tracks are currently in progress... second, some of the GUI elements have been updated and color-coordinated so they all fit together... third, a looooooot of writing has been done since the last update... previously, the working document was mixed with project notes, outlines, final dialogue, and non-final dialogue—which made for a very messy document—but now that has all been cleaned up by splitting the writing into different documents... so now there is a script document with 9000+ words and an outline document with 5000+ words...
lastly, the animations for Keiva have now been fully coded, which means the two fully-finished characters can talk to each other in the game engine... so please view the dialogue animation preview video linked to this post... it doesn't have any actual dialogue, but it showcases how the character animations will work... basically each character has two facings (toward the group and toward the player), each with several emotions, in two different states (overworld and underworld)... the talking character also gets brighter, or you could instead think of it as the other characters on screen being dimmed while not talking... either way, it is a huge step in development to have two characters in dialogue like this, even though it may seem simple... nothing ever is...
Here's where we're at so far:
- Characters - 2 of 3 main characters pixeled, animated, and coded (Akari & Keiva) - 1 of ? side characters pixeled
- Artwork - 4 of ? background artwork created - logo completed - GUI artwork about 70% complete
- Music - 17 of 30+ tracks completed
- Dialogue - 9411 words written out of expected 80,000 words across all story paths
- Overall - at this point, the game is approximately 20% complete
that's all for now... thanks for reading... - quite adept
