Development - 3rd Rumination


it is early evening on May 13th... after more than a month of no progress due to an inspiring trek through northern Japan followed by an exhausting addiction to Blue Prince (also inspiring), a ton of progress has been made in the last few days...

the current goal is to finish scripting, coding, and qa'ing all of Act I and possibly release it as a demo... there are only three things standing in the way of getting that going: two sets of character art, one song, and at least seven pieces of background art... all of these things take a lot of time and prevent direct progress in coding the script, mainly because it is not possible to use placeholder assets without breaking things...

since the last update 87 days ago (which is oddly the same interval as the previous gap between devlogs), one song from the soundtrack has been completed, there are two new pieces of background art (see screenshot on this post), and one more character portrait is fully pixeled and coded (Ghett)... there is still a lot to do, but a playable demo is closer than ever before...

Here's where we're at so far:

  • Characters - 2 of 3 main characters pixeled, animated, and coded - 5 of 7 side characters pixeled, animated, and code
  • Artwork - 13 of ? background artwork created - logo completed - GUI artwork about 70% complete
  • Music - 24 of 30+ tracks completed
  • Dialogue - 15,621 words written out of expected 80,000 words across all story paths
  • Overall - at this point, the game is approximately 31% complete

there are no more things to say, but there are plenty of things to not say... - quite adept
